NEW DELHI : Those engaged in attacks aimed to create communal tensions even as the country battles to contain the dreadful pandemic should be punished severely, said CPI(M) Politburo Thursday. The ostentatious attacks against Muslims are on the rise. Vulgar accusations and heinous trolls put out on social media by ruling party fans are deplorable.
These acts with backing from party in power would end up jeopardizing jobs of Indian expats abroad. In 2019 alone, around 3 lakh people from states of Uttar Pradesh, Bhihar, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal combined, have newly joined jobs in Middle East. There are at least 175 crore Indians working in different countries around the world.
To deal with the menace, provisions under Disaster Management should be invoked and legal action taken against people, including politicians in high places, for creating poisonous atmosphere by targeting minorities. The Centre is obliged to ensure equal protection without distinction to caste, religion, gender, or physical appearances. And, hounding media persons and social activists too is condemnable, said Politburo in a statement.
