NEW DELHI : According to  media reports, Rahul Gandhi accused signatories to the letter seeking change of leadership, as colluding with BJP.  While the claim  implying betrayal is scathing, party seniors Kapil Sibal and Gulam Nabi Azad - both signatories to the letter -  hit back at the accusation. Leaders from the Rahul brigade however called it a hoax saying he never said anything like that.

Gulam Nabi Azad said he was ready to resign if there was any  indication of him conspiring with the saffrons. Kapil Sibal took to twitter for his response. ‘ have never criticised leadership in the past 30 years and had even waged litigation in court to save Congress govt in Rajasthan, he wrote adding that, despite the track, now comes the accusation of my colluding with BJP.

There were 23 party veterans from across the states who endorsed the letter to Sonia Gandhi asking for a change in central leadership. The letter cited the dwindling support for Congress among public including youth, to make its point. The letter sent on 7th  July came to light after ousted  leaded Sanjay Jha divulged the contents. After the revelation snowballed, Sonia offered to resign as party’s interim president - a post she held after Rahul resigned. When the period of interim presidentship having expired on 10 Aug, Sonia remains in the chair mostly because neither Rahul nor Priyanka refused to assume the position. The present letter from seniors asks for a new individual - whether from inside or outside the Nehru clan - to take charge of the currently leaderless party.
