Railway Orders Reinstatement Of Pre-Covid Ticket Charges

New Delhi : The Railways has ordered return to pre-Covid ticket charges for its services from now on. The instruction was handed in letter addressed to its countrywide zonal offices. The document however lacks mention with regard to concessions scrapped earlier on special trains for select categories, including senior citizens .

When lockdown curbs eased, services of long-distance trains were opened initially, followed by passenger and then special trains in subsequent phases. The current Railways order asks for removal of e-special tag and special number from the ticket format and keeping of just ticket number, rate and time instead. The Railway Ministry called for changes in software and database structure required to do this.

Although Covid concessions were announced and train fares put back to prior rates, there rose wide protest over additional levy in form of Special tag and the current reversal squarely to old rates comes at end of that opposition.
