New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Friday set free all six convicts serving life imprisonment in the Rajiv Assassination case of 1991. The release came on basis of freeing Perarivalan earlier in the case – the grounds of which held valid for other convicts too, the apex court observed.
The verdict spells freedom for S Nalini, Jaykumar, RP Ravichndran, Pobert Pias, Sutherja and Sriharan – all of who were model prisoners and completed their degree studies while in jail.
Earlier this year, the Suprme court had freed 31-year-old convict AG Perarivalan taking into account the long pendency of his mercy plea since December 2015, his medical condition and academic achievement.
