New Delhi : The Uttar Pradesh government and Centre led by Prime Minister, heading Bhumi Pooja activities for the Ram temple at Ayodhya runs against the Supreme Court order and dignity of the country’s Constitution, said CPI(M) Politburo in its press release. At the outset, CPI(M) maintained that the Ayodhya land dispute should be resolved by mutual consensus or via court decision. Eventually, the Supreme Court pronounced its verdict, paving way for construction of Ram Mandir at the disputed site.
In its judgement, the apex court also ordered formation of a Trust that would be eintrusted with all activities towards the creation of the new temple. Eventually, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust comprising 15 trustees was formed and has been overseeing the project since. The SC verdict also held that razing down Babri Masjid on Dec 2 of 1992 amounted to a criminal offence. However, instead of punishing those guilty, the apex court ruled that the centre nor state governments shall, at no point act in a manner that gives legitimacy to the mosque demolition in retrospect. That guideline is now compromised in the ongoing developments.
Another gross aspect involves safety risks the whole thing poses for the public. The pandemic rules set by the Home Ministry bans all kinds of religious gathering. And, several seers and police at Ayodhya have been already diagnosed with Covid-19. The implications are scary.
Given these dimensions, the Politburo called upon the public to uphold constitutional principles and secularism, and also observe all preventive measures against catching the virus. Further, it also urged people to guard against exploitation of their religious sentiments, designed for narrow political gains.
