New Delhi : Facebook on Thursday restored a hashtag calling for resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The hashtag was blocked on Wednesday, hiding more than 12,000 posts critical of the Modi government over covid pandemic rocketing around the country.
Some Facebook users tweeted that hashtag #ResignModi had been blocked from view on Facebook and users searching the hashtag received a message that said such posts were “temporarily hidden here” because “some content in those posts goes against our Community Standards.”
After restoring it early this morning however Facebook said the outage was accidental. “We temporarily blocked this hashtag by mistake, not because the Indian government asked us to, and have since restored it,” the spokesperson said.
Earlier Twitter faced criticism for deleting more than 50 tweets criticising high-ranking officials on a legal request sent forth by the centre.
The now-reinstated hashtag #ResignModi, speaks of miseries of Covid victims in the country with hospitals overflowing with dead and dying victims. Several blamed Modi for allowing Kumbh Mela and holding massive election rallies amid the second wave, the reason, several claimed, spiraled the disease out of control.
