New Delhi : The students at Jawaharlal Nehru University(JNU) are in no mood to call off their agitation and dubbed authorities announcement of rolling back fee hike to media,  as eyewash.

The Education Secretary, R Subramaniam, in his Wednesday tweet said “Executive Committee announces major roll-back in the hostel fee and other stipulations. Also proposes a scheme for economic assistance to EWS students. Time to get back to classes @ HRD Ministry.”

There is no roll back. A substantial portion of the hike is still there, point out students.

Besides there is no announcement on other demands like curfew timings and dress code.

The protests will go ahead and students should stay ready, said Union Secretary Aishe Ghosh.

Double room at the rate of Rs 10pm had been hiked to Rs 200. It now stands reduced at Rs 100.  Single room that cost Rs 20 pm was raised to Rs 600 and subsequently slashed to rs 200 pm.  Security deposit of Rs 5,500 was hiked to Rs  12,000. The newly introduced "Utility Charges of Rs. 1700" remains intact.

Dress code  and curfew are undemocratic and anti-student restrictions, claimed the protesters.

Why is there a 24-hour library, if one is not allowed to move about during night, they ask.
