New Delhi: The Supreme Court deplored Centre’s inertia on collegium recommendations for High Court and Supreme Court judge appointments. The kind of delay on part of Centre is in acceptable, said Bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S Oka.
The Centre is violating guidelines framed by the court last year that stipulates judges appointments in a timely manner, the Bench observed. The court sent notice to Legal Secretary in this regard.
Over 68 recommendations are pending before the Centre of which 11 are names repeated by the Collegium, meaning the government is obliged to approve them.
The court was hearing a contempt petition filed by The Advocates Association Bengaluru represented by Advocate Pai Amit, who pointed out to court that the Centre was sitting on some recommendations as old those of 2019.
