CHENNAI : A senior journalist was arrested in Chennai for selling a book, exposing government corruption in Tamil Nadu.
Journalist V Anpazhagan on Saturday was evicted from Chennai Book Fair, where he had set up a small kiosk displaying the controversial book. The police arrested next day around 5 am.
The book is a compilation of RTI replies he received from various departments of the government. It included information obtained on Smart City too. The book reportedly points to misappropriation of funds by members of ruling AIADMK.
The cops have charged the writer under sec 341(wrongful restraint) allegedly for attacking them and the Fair Management staff, when they forced him to vacate. Charges also include Sec249(b) (sings, recites or utters any obscene song, Ballard or words, in or near any public place) and 506(2) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC.
The Chennai Press Council has condemned the arrest and has demanded his release.
