NEW DELHI : In a grossly misleading statement, the Home Minister Amit Shah told the Rajya Sabha that, only Sanghparivar workers got killed in political skirmishes of Kerala.

The claim triggered an opposition uproar following which Shah retracted the bluff.  CPI(M) killed over 120 BJP workers, Shah had said in reply to a query on SPG.

MPs KK Ragesh and K Somprasad  proceeded to the well of the House, demanding correction of the grossly incorrect statement. They also hit back saying, most political killings in Kerala were orchestrated by Sanghparivar led RSS The opposition members joined the protest and the Left leaders staged a walkout.

In the wake of the huge outcry,  Shah recalled the claim and  acknowledged that several  CPI(M) workers have been killed at various political encounters in the state.

Congress expressed satisfaction at the  correction,  after which the members boycotted the session.

The House then proceeded to pass the Amendment to SPG Bill permitting the Special Protection Group only for the Prime Minister.
