New Delhi : After back and fro talks that seemed to go nowhere, Siddaramaiah has in the end emerged as prefered choice for Chief Ministerial- a decision that came about after DK Shivakumar conceded to urging by the High Command at a meeting held today in the capital. The official announcement is due to be made this evening. Siddaramaiah will take his oath tomorrow. Shivakumar will continue as the PCC president in Karnataka. It is learnt that, Shivakumar turned down Sonia’s suggestion that he become part of the Cabinet.
According to national media, Sonia made the crucial intervention to persuade Shivakumar to accept the decision. Sonia had proposed that Siddaramaiah stay as Chief Minster for the first term of 2-and-half years and then step down for Shivakumar to assume the post. According to sources, Shivakumar is not wholly satisfied with seat sharing.
The Party had promised Shvakumar the Deputy CM post. However with results coming out on 13 May, both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar contended to have the post for themselves.
Meanwhile, with news now out of Siddaramaiah becoming the next CM, security has been beefed out around his house.
According to reliable reports, Karnataka is slated to have three Deputy Chief Ministers - one representing the Lingayat, one the SC and third the Muslim community. They are : MB Patil(Lingayat), Dr. G Parameshwara(SC) and UT Khadar(Muslim).
