Hyderabad > The Left parties and Jana Sena today called for a peaceful padayatra by people on all national and important highways across the state of on April 6 as part of their stir, seeking Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh.
CPI(M) state secretary P Madhu, CPI secretary K Ramakrishna and Jana Sena president and film star Pawan Kalyan announced the action plan after a meeting here today.
Kalyan said he would take part in the foot march on the National Highway in Vijayawada while Jana Sena and Left parties' cadres would conduct the agitation in a peaceful manner on other highways and important roads across the state.
"This is in protest against the betrayal of people of Andhra Pradesh by the Government of India," they said. It was on the call of the Jana Sena chief that TDP and YSR Congress served notices for moving a no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha against the Narendra Modi government on the special category status issue.
"But the BJP government failed in conducting the Lok Sabha in an orderly fashion so that the motion could be taken up for discussion," the leaders said. "This is a conspiracy against the people (of Andhra Pradesh). It's a blow to democracy as well," the leaders noted.
Instead of upping the ante on the Centre, the TDP and the YSRC were indulging in a mutual slanging match and harming the interests of the state, they lashed out. After the foot march on the 6th, meetings would be organised by Jana Sena and the Left in Anantapuramu, Ongole and Vizianagaram with intellectuals on the SCS issue, they said.
We will take our agitation forward in a phased manner and announce the plan in due course," they added.
