New Delhi : The Supreme Court’s ruling, allowing States to sub-classify and make separate quotas, should be utilised in such manner that it benefits the more disadvantaged sections within the Schedule Caste community, said CPI(M) Politburo.
As per the Constitution Bench, the State is required to back sub-classifications it makes with empirical data indicating inadequacy of representation. In line with the apex court ruling, the governments should provide facilities needed to improve the lives of those that remain underprivileged in the SC community.
Context: In a milestone stride toward social equality, the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld power of States to sub-classify and grant separate quotas for more backwards within the Scheduled castes for purpose of education and employment.
