Tamil Cop Shot at Border Checkpost in Kaliyikkavila

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM :  An on-duty ASI from Tamil Nadu police, was shot dead at  Padanthalamoodu checkpost near Kerala-Kanyakumari border in Kaliyikkavila, last night.


The deceased officer has been identified as Wilson, attached to Tamil Nadu police station.

Around 10 pm last night, a man got out of his vehicle, a Scorpio, and shot four rounds at Wilson, who along with other officers were engaged in checking vehicles flagged near the post.  Though rushed to the hospital, Wilson was declared brought dead.

 

High ranking officials including Kanyakumari collector arrived at the scene. The Tamil Nadu police have passed details of the vehicle (TN-57-AW-1559) from CCTV grabs at the spot to Kerala Polcie and suspect the assailant has entered the state.

 

According to sources, the prime suspect in a recent murder, Raj Kumar, is considered to be the assailant. Kerala police have begun intensive combing operations on road  to trace the suspect.

 

Wilson, a Marthandum native,  was due to retire in four months time.
