Kochi: Kendriya Vidyalaya(KV) schools have been instructed to ask students to come up with videos saying they are thankful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for cancelling their 12th standard exams this year. Following this, several KV students including those from Kerala have been asked by teachers to prepare the videos.
The instruction originally sprang from the Union Education Ministry following which, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sanghattan’s Deputy Commissioner relayed the message via WhatsApp to all KV Principals. The instruction is strict and one that demands that each student upload such videos. Those unable to develop such visual for some reason should re-tweet the video available on KV’s twitter handle. The Principals on their turn handed down the end- responsibility to the teachers who are now calling up and pressuring home-confined children, to come out with their video immediately. The messages are hashtagged #ThankYouModiSir and all video messages are identical : “My gratitude to Modi Sir for saving us from mental stress during in these difficult times by cancelling the exams.” etc
The decision to cancel 12th standard exams came following firm order from Supreme Court asking to end the uncertainty over 12th std exams. However, efforts are now on to purport the decision as Modi’s magnanimity. There is protest in both student and the teachers’ circles over the forced tactic to boost Modi’s image that took a beating after plunging masses into distress with its shoddy vaccine distribution methods and Covid mitigation efforts. However, since the grades for the exams will now be arrived based on school exams, they are hesitant to come out openly about their resentment.
