Thiruvananthapuram : Covid third wave is set to hit the country by end of August, states ICMR(Indian Council of Medical Research). Good news is, the 3rd wave is forecast to being less severe than the 2nd. However, restrictions would be mandatory to control the spread of infections, said Dr. Sameran Pandey, the head of ICMR’s Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases Department(ICD), in a televised interview with a news channel.
Meanwhile, the Union Ministry Secretary Rajesh Bhushan wrote to states citing there are re-surges of Covid in various parts of the country owing to violations of Covid protocols. Testing, tracing, treatment and vaccination should be implemented meticulously to control the spread, he advised. Secretary to the Home Ministry, Ajay Balla, recently demanded of to give strict instructins to their regional authorities to prevent people crowding.
Daily Tally Crosses 40,000
After a 3-day lull, daily cases countrywide crossed 40,000. 41,816 new infections were reported in the past 24 hours and 577 deaths in that time. Presently, there are 4,32,041 persons under treatment. The national total for confirmed cases so far stands at 3,09,87,880 and deaths 4,11,989 and 39.13 crore have been vaccinated so far.
