Threat To National Security: Govt Bans 54 More Chinese Apps

New Delhi :  The Centre has banned 54 more Chinese citing  they posed threat to the nation’s security.  The Union Electronics and Information Technology Ministry  instructed leading App Stores including Google to block  54 Apps on its latest  ban list.

According to the Ministry, these Apps secured critical permissions and collected  sensitive user data which would then be  transmitted to servers located in hostile countries.

The prohibited list  includes - Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera - Selfie Camera, Garena Free Fire - Illuminate, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock and Dual Space Lite.

The Apps are being banned under Sec 69 A of the Information Technology(IT) Act, said the Ministry  in its statement.

Earlier in 2020,  India banned 59 Apps  including the popular video-sharing app TikTok and messaging app WeChat. The reason was similar and stated  threats posed  to the nation’s sovereignty and security

A total of 321 Chinese Apps have been blocked so far  since tensions along borders with China erupted in May of 2020.
