New Delhi : A massive earthquake of magnitude 6.1 that struck coast of East Timor Friday morning is capable of generating tsunami in the Indian Ocean region, say reports.
The quake was at a depth of 10 km and struck 29 kmeast-southeast of Lospalos, according to US Geological Surve(USGS).
East Timor on the Indonesian coast sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” that has a host of seismic activity usually stretch through Southeast Asia and across the Pacific basin.
The quake this morning was also felt by residents in the Australian city of Drwiin located 700 km away.
