Five Workers Die Inhaling Toxic Fumes Inside Fish Processing Factory in Mangaluru

Mangaluru : : Five workers died inhaling toxic fumes from a waste storage tank at a fish processing factory in Mangaluru. All victims are labourers from West Bengal : Sameerullah Islam, Umar Farouqh, Nisamuddin Sayed,Mirsul Islam and Sarahat Ali. Five more remain critical in ICU : Ajan, Ali, Karibulla, Afsal and Malik.

The tragic mishap occurred at the factory located in Bajpe’s Special Economic Zone  late night Sunday. At first, while trying to haul waste out the tank, Sameeullah  collapsed from toxicity of fumes emanating inside. Others died while trying to rescue Sameerullah and those ahead who collapsed similarly.

Workers at the factory have no kind of safety gear, said ACP Hariram who visited the place. Four, including the owner Ruby Joseph, have been arrested in the incident. Bodies of the dead are stored at AJ Hospital where they will be released to the families after postmortem.
