NEW DELHI : US President Donald Trump fumed over India’s delay in responding to his request for Covid drug saying “there may be retaliation” if the supplies didn’t pull off.

The drug, Hydroxychloroquine tablets or known as Malaria drugs, are inexpensive and used by India to treat its Covid patients and with good results. The Centre however banned its exports to take stock of its own requirement to treat the growing number of coronavirus infected people in the country.

Hours after the ban, Trump made a personal telephone call to PM Narendra Modi Sunday morning   asking for bulk supplies, a call Modi is yet to respond until now.

In a development today, the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Anurag Srivastava came up to announce that India will supply the essential drugs to badly affected neighbours and other hard-hit countries  He further said  the govt “discourages any speculation in this regard or any attempt to politicize the matter.”

Over 10,000 people have died of coronavirus in US and the toll is expected to cross 2 lakh even if all public health guidelines are followed.
