Due to impending third wave, the Director of National Institute of Virology, Dr. Priya Abraham had earlier said vaccination among children will commence from September. However, the Union Health Minister decided to put that off until done with adult population around the country.
Covid does not affect children in a major way and vaccination for them will have no bearing on school opening, said the Ministry . Schools will open after staff are fully vaccinated, it added.
Meanwhile, a census has begun to survey the numbers of children for vaccination. DCGI will evaluate the report on various vaccines for kids in the meantime.
