New Delhi : In an ugly turn of events, a visually impaired student was  mocked, beaten up and thrown to the ground during JNU protests on Monday, by police and CRPF combo in Delhi.

The JNU students forum claims, Shashi Bhushan was “inhumanely beaten up” and asked why he joined protests if he was “blind”.

Shashi was part of a peaceful march to the parliament on Monday, when he was picked on by the police.

The forum in a statement said, Shashi was kicked on chest, stomach and thrown on the ground. Police didn’t transport him for medical treatment, they added.

JNU Students and police/CRPF, battled it out in Delhi Monday, as hundreds of students took to streets demanding roll back of recent fee hike.

The agitation that began a fortnight ago, revolves around the university’s draft hostel manual, which introduced multiple times increase in hostel fees, time and dress restrictions in the campus.

The university withdrew the timings and dress regulation in the initial day of protests.  The fee-hike continues to be a burning issue.

Meanwhile, the JNU teachers association and several political parties have condemned the police and army excess, dubbing it as violation of  democratic rights.
