New Delhi : The Women’s Reservation Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, becoming the first Bill to be tabled in the New Parliament House. The Bill, introduced by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal seeks to reserve 33 percent seats for women in Lok Sabha and the state assemblies.
Discussion on the Bill is slated for Rajya Sabha on Thursday after being initially passed in Lok Sabha on Wednesday. However the Bill shall not be implemented in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
A clause in the Bill states that Women’s Reservation Bill will apply only after current assemblies expire and subsequent re-determination of various constituencies. Scheduled categories will have sub-reservations.
