New Delhi : The Supreme Court on Friday approved three assessment schemes proposed by CBSE to arrive upon marks for pending exams pertaining to its X and XII std.  The Board will now prepare scores for the unwritten exams based on marks obtained in exams given before lockdown disruption,  and publish  results for both these classes on July 15.

As per the assessment scheme, results of Class 10 and 12 students, who completed all their exams will be declared based on their performances. In case of  those who have appeared for three or more subjects, narks for pending subjects will be awarded based on average of 3 highest scores among them. And, for those who appeared for only two exams, marks from average of those papers will apply.

The 3-judge Bench comprising Justices AM Khanwilkarr, Dinesh Maheshwari and Sanjiv Khanna rejected a suggestion to fix a deadline for students to sit for optional exams. During the course of proceedings CBSE agreed to apply internal-assessment performances for Delhi students for exams cancelled owing to violence in the region early this year.

The apex court was hearing a petition filed by a group of parents who sought cancellation of pending Class 12 exams in the wake of growing pandemic. The centre and CBSE was represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Schools and colleges across the country have been shut since March after government announced countrywide lockdown following outbreak of COVID-19.
