Mumbai: A 26-year-old football player, collapsed on field amidst a football game and succumbed to cardiac arrest, at the St. Sebastian’s High School ground. Scott D’Souza, a striker known among players for his clinical finishing proved himself to be a valuable asset to the team on various occasions. He also represented India at the 2017 Five - a - side tournament held in China and the Neymar Junior’s tournament in Brazil.
Forensics from KEM hospital have sent D’Souza’s samples for histopathology and said the final decision for cause of death has been reserved. Police meanwhile have launched an FIR for accidental death.
Reports say Scott complained of having trouble breathing during the match. CCTV footage from a camera near the ground shows D’Souza collapsing near the goalpost. He was rushed to Hinduja Hospital by teammates but was declared brought dead.
Scott lost his father to heart attack and was survived by his mother and younger brother.
