Malappuram : Ace defender Radhakrishnan Dhanarajan, died after collapsing during a football match in Perinthalmanna on Sunday evening. Dhanarajan who played for the “Big Three” of the Maidan has also represented Bengal in the Santosh Trophy.
He was playing a Sevens match for FC Perinthalmanna against Sastha Medicals FC Thrissur, when the defender suddenly raised his left arm and fell on the ground in the 27th minute of the game.
Dhanarajan was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead.
The Sevens Football Tournament, a very popular series in the state and is run by the All Kerala Sevens football Association. Players like IM Vijayan, Jo Paul Ancheri, CK Vineeth have played in the tournament. Total during of the match is 60 minutes with 30 minute duration for each half.
In their preliminary finding, the doctors put cardiac arrest as the cause of Dhanarajan’s death.
