Vishnu VSUpdated: Saturday Nov 28, 2020

Team India have been fined 20 per cent of their match fee on keeping a slow over-rate against Australia in their first ODI of the three-match series. The ICC, in a press release, Saturday, told media there won’t be a formal hearing on the matter as, Indian team captain Virat Koli, accepted the sanctions after admitting his team’s guilt on the count . Taking the time allowance into account, it was evaluated that the Indian team was an over short. Team India lost the opening ODI, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, by 66 runs, with their tough target of 875,  where the team was seen struggling badly at some points. The team’s next ODI is slated Sunday, same venue.

“David Boon of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Virat Kohli's side was ruled to be one over short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration," an ICC spokesman told media.

"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

The ICC press release stated ""Kohli pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires Rod Tucker and Sam Nogajski, TV umpire Paul Reiffel and fourth umpire Gerard Abood leveled the charge.,"
