Thrissur : The 65th State School Sports festival took off Tuesday morning and Kannur became recipient to first Gold with Gopika Gopi of GVHSS winning the first medal in the Junior Girls 3000 meter race. Ashwini S Nair of Usha School of Athletics securing Silver and Anumol Saji from Mar Basil School in Ernakulam bagging the Bronze.
Malappuram won Gold and Silver in the junior boys 3000m event. Muhammad Ameen of Cheekode KKHSS won Gold and Muhammad Jazeel from the same school bagged Silver.
CR Nitya of Kothamangalam Mar Basil won Gold in the Senior Girls 3000m race.
Palakkad won Gold and Silver in the Senior Boys 3000 m event. Bijoy of Chittor GVHSS and Muhamad Mashbood of Kumaramputhur won Gold and Silver respectively.
The State School Sports meet was inaugurated yesterday at Thinakad grounds in Thrissur where Minister R Bindu handed over the ceremonial torch to former footballer IM Vijayan.
