Tokyo Olympics: Kamalpreet Kaur Qualifies For Women’s Discus Throw Finals

Putting on one of the best Olympian performances by an Indian, discus thrower Kamalpreet Kaur heads for finals of ongoing Games in Tokyo.

The 25-year-old sent the discus flying spanning 64m length in her third and final attempt in the second round becoming one of the only two automatic qualifiers for the final. She beat American Valarie Allman who finished with 66.42 m

Kaur started wihh a 60.29 gain then betterd it to 63.97 in her second attempt before finishing it with 64m in the third. Every competitor  gets three throws and those who manage 64m or is positioned among  12 best performers in two qualifying rounds makes it to the final.

Klinken of Netherlands is the season’s best with 70.22m but failed to advance to final after a modest score of 61.15m at  elimination round. Allman is the second best this year at 70.01m.

The final round is scheduled for 2 August.
