Crisis from shortage of heavy duty truckers is beginning to affect the country’s football. With the shortage of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) drivers post Brexit and Covid conditions, parts of the country have been hit with a fuel crisis. Although the refineries are at full capacity, supply lines have been disrupted forcing some pumps to shut down and triggering long queues and chaos at others.
The crisis has in turn affected matches including the all-important Champions League. With travel uncertainties looming for participating teams, several non-league fixtures have been postponed, including those slated for Tuesday and Wednesday in the Isthmain League and Southern league - both of which cover several parts of southern England in the tier below the National league.
That announced, several leagues gave the nod to postponing fixtures over travel concerns. Many clubs expressed relief while others responded with frustration on matches being called off at short notice.
