109 deaths as coronavirus pandemic continues to rage across GCC

Manama: The number of novel coronavirus cases in Gulf countries continue to rise as the gulf recorded the sharpest single-day spike in fresh cases of infections. The tally of the infected cases jumped to 15,663 after over 1,542 new cases were recorded on Monday. The death toll due to Covid-19, meanwhile, jumped to 109.

Gulf death toll continues to steeply rise as the countries announced 10 deaths due to covid-19 on Monday.

Saudi Arabia continues to be the worst-hit country in the GCC, followed by the United Arab Emirates. With more than 4,934 patients and 65 deaths, the county has recorded around 60 % of the total fatalities of the gulf. The UAE is the second worst hit country with a total of 4123 cases including 25 deaths.

The total registered cases across the GCC stood as Saudi Arabia-4,934,UAE-4,123, Qatar-3,231, Kuwait-1,300, Bahrain-1,348, and Oman-727.

 

Four expats dies in Saudi

Six people, including four expats, died in Saudi Arabia due to coronavirus on Monday, pushing the country’s death toll to 65. Two of the dead are Saudis, a 51-year-old and a 95-year-old. The remaining four are foreigners with ages ranging between 42 and 67 years.

Saudi saw an increase of over 472 cases in a single day, while the number of active cases is around 4,064 with 805 people either been cured or discharged.

Of the new registered cases, Riyadh led with most of the cases-118, followed by 113 in Madinah and 95 in Makkah. There were 80 cases in Jeddah, and 22 in Tabuk.

Most cases were detected in crowded labor worker communities and other crowded residential areas, Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah said recently.

 

3 more dies in the UAE

Three more people died due to coronavirus in the UAE on Saturday, taking the death toll to 25 within the last 24-hours.

The UAE had its largest single-day rise yet, with 398 new cases. The number of cases reported in the country is now 4521, while there have been 852 recoveries so far. The country recorded its highest recovery on Monday, with 172 people discharged from hospital.

All the latest cases were detected through intensified investigation and examination procedures and all of the new cases are in stable condition, the ministry of Health and Prevention said.

 

2nd death in Kuwait, 716 Indians on treatment

One more people died of coronavirus in Kuwait, bringing the death tally to two. Kuwait’s total Covid-19 cases rose to 1,300 after 66 people tested positive on Monday.

A 50-year-old Kuwaiti man, who was in intensive care unit, was the latest victim, spokesman for the Health Ministry Dr. Abdullah Al Sanad said in a media briefing.

Of the latest 66 cases, 40 are Indians, taking the number of infected Indians in the country to 716. The total tally includes 26 in intensive care units, nine of them in critical condition, he said.

746 people have ended institutional isolation in Kuwait after tested negative and they will undergo mandatory 14-day home quarantine, according to Dr. Al Sanad.

 

Bahrain sees largest single-day spike of 212 cases

Bahrain confirmed 212 fresh cases of virus infection on Monday. This is the highest single-day increase in its coronavirus infection. Of the new cases, 206 were expats, according to the ministry of Health.

The total cases now stands at 1,348 including 591 recoveries. Currently, a total of 65,768 people have been tested and the total number of active cases stood at 751, out of which four patients were in a critical condition.
