11 Deaths in the UAE, while nine in Saudi

Manama: The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to ravage across the six gulf countries, infecting more than 78,744 people and killing nearly 441.

The six nation block registered a record jump of 22 deaths and 3,930 cases on Wednesday. The UAE recorded 11 deaths, while Saudi Arabia registered nine and Kuwait two.

The number of active cases at Gulf stood at 61,154, after 17,179 have been cured. The total cases now stands as Saudi Arabia - 31,938, Qatar-17,972, the UAE - 15,738, Kuwait - 6,289, Bahrain- 3,934 and Oman - 2,903.

Saudi Arabia remains the worst-hit country in the Gulf with the total number of cases and number of deaths. In terms of the number of fatalities, the UAE is the second hardest-hit state and as to cases, Qatar is the second.

The total death in the UAE rose to 157 on Wednesday. The 11 deaths reported in Wednesday are believed to be the highest reported in a single-day since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The UAE confirmed 546 new cases the same day. Of this, 30 cases are from two families. The ministry of Public Health said that they convened a family gathering that got them infected. The cases include a 2-month old infant and a number of elderly people, ministry added.

The total number of coronavirus related-fatalities in Saudi rose to 209. The country recorded 1,687 new cases on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the death toll tally in Kuwait from Covid-19 rose to 42. More than 485 people, including 152 Indians, were confirmed to the virus. Of the total 6,289 cases, 2,644 were Indians.

Qatar recorded 830 new cases, while Oman 168 cases and Bahrain 122 on Wednesday.
