Manama: An 88-year-old COVID-19 patient died in Qatar, taking the number of coronavirus deaths in the county to four, Ministry of Public Health said on Thursday.
The victim, a Qatari citizen, was suffering from underlying chronic diseases and admitted to hospital due to acute bacterial infection in the blood, which led to his death, ministry said. The Ministry of Public Health extended its sincere condolences to the bereft family.
Qatar saw a record jump in coronavirus cases on Sunday as nearly 279 new cases were reported in last 24 hours. This was biggest single-day spike of positive coronavirus cases since the coronavirus outbreak in the country.
The newly confirmed patients are both Qataris and expats who either came from abroad or had been in contact with infected people, ministry added.
The ministry confirmed that the total number of infected cases soar to 1604. 14 cases of recovery were registered, taking the total recovery to 123, and 1,477 active cases are under treatment.
The ministry stated that it had conducted 3,806 tests to detect the coronavirus on Sunday and 279 people were confirmed positive among them. The total number of Covid-19 tests done in Qatar now stands at 35,757.
