Manama: Saudi Arabia recorded six deaths, including five expatriates, and over 157 new cases on Wednesday. It is the highest-ever single-day increase in its COVID-19 tally in the country.
This brought the total confirmed virus infections to 1,720 and took the death toll in the country to 16. So far, 264 persons have been cured, while 30 patient are in critical condition, the Ministry of Health said its press briefing.
Three expatriate were died in the city of Madinah and other two expats were died in Mecca and Riyadh respectively.
Madinah reported the highest number of virus cases on Wednesday, with 78 cases. While Makkah confirmed 55 cases on the same day.
The UAE reported two fatalities on Wednesday, and 50 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the country’s total to 814, said the Ministry of Health and Prevention. It is the highest number of infections reported in the country since the outbreak of the deadly pathogen.
The deceased were a 62-year-old Asian and a 78-year-old Gulf citizen. They had chronic diseases and cardiac ailment that complicated their illness, the ministry added.
The ministry urged the public to cooperate with health authorities and adhere to precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The Gulf has so far a total of 4465 coronavirus cases and 31 deaths. The Arabian Gulf nations reported 409 new cases on Wednesday alone. On a more positive note, 773 patients had recovered from the virus.
Qatar on Wednesday announced 54 new cases, pushing total virus infection to 835 in the country. Ministry also announced a total of 71 recoveries from the infection which include 9 new recoveries. The total number of Covid-19 tests done in Qatar now stands at 24,825.
Kuwait reported on Wednesday 28 new cases, including 24 Indians, taking the total count of infection to 317. The country has announced the recovery of 80 people from the virus, including the 82 year old woman. The active cases now stands at 237, including 14 in the intensive care unit. Four cases are in critical condition. As many as 911 people have discharged from ministry quarantines, said official spokesman of the ministry of health, Abdullah Al-Sanad.
As of Wednesday, 59 Indians have been diagnosed with the disease in Kuwait. The building in Faheel that 440 Indian workers are staying has been under strict quarantine, the ministry of health said.
Bahrain has announced the recovery of 21 people from the pestilence in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 337, which continues to be the highest recovery rate in the GCC. The active cases now reduced to 228, according to the ministry of Health special web page for the COVID updates. Bahrain reported only two new coronavirus cases on Wednesday.
The Ministry of Health on Wednesday said on its twitter account that there is no spread of coronavirus among expatriates.
The Sultanate of Oman has confirmed 18 new coronavirus cases in the country on Wednesday, bringing the total tally to 210.
Meanwhile, 34 patients have recovered so far, the Ministry of Health announced. One person has died due to the novel coronavirus.
The ministry urged everyone to adhere to social distancing instructions as well as staying at home and not going out unless necessary.
