Arab coalition destroys Houthi mine in Red Sea, 3 projectiles fall in Jazan

Manama: The Saudi led coalition battling in Yemen destroyed a marine mine planted by the Iran-aligned Houthi militia in the southern Red Sea, Saudi state TV reported on Friday.

The coalition said that the mine was Iranian-made and was a Sadaf type of mine.

So far, the coalition forces has removed and destroyed a total of 171 sea mines placed by the militia.

The Houthi militia's hostilities and actions, with Iran’s support, threatened the security of the Bab Al-Mandab Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and is a vital global energy gateway, the coalition added.

In another development, Jazan’s civil defense media spokesperson said it had received a report that three military projectiles were landed Al-Harath governorate in Jazan.

No casualties were reported. The projectiles were launched by the Houthi militia from inside Yemeni territories, he said.

One of the projectiles fell in a vacant lot 197 meters away from Al-Harath General Hospital, he said. Two other projectiles fell into another vacant lot but did not result in any damages.
