Manama: Bahrain aims to vaccinate 15 lakh people out of a population of 17 lakhs against Covid-19.The current vaccination campaign against COVID-19 in Bahrain is likely to take up to 300 days, local media reported.
The vaccination campaign against the disease was kick-started in Bahrain last week, which is free for its citizens and expats.
Around 679,000 expats and 712,000 Bahrainis aged over 18 are slated to get the vaccine, Akhbar Al Khaleej newspaper reported.
Health authorities in the kingdom have said that 27 medical centres will be set up for vaccination for a maximum of 10,000 persons per day.
Bahrain has recorded 90,450 virus cases and 350 related fatalities so far.
Last week, National Health Regulatory Authority announced approving the registration of a vaccine against COVID-19 developed by the Chinese pharmaceutical giant Sinopharm.
Bahrain this month became the second country in the world after the UK granting an emergency use authorisation for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, the health ministry has said that citizens and expats have shown great interest in receiving the vaccine against COVID-19.
The ministry called on people to register for the vaccine through its website https://healthalert.gov.bh to set appointments for citizens and foreign residents to take the vaccine.
