Bahrain suspends dine-in, moves schools to remote learning

Manama: Bahrain will suspend dine-in services at restaurants, cafes and shisha cafes for three weeks, while outdoor services will be limited to 30 individuals per reservation.

The Ministry Of Health on Wednesday said it had detected a new variant of coronavirus in a number of cases and decided to impose a number of measures starting Sunday, January 2021.

As part of the measures to contain the spread of the coronavirus, the government decided to suspend attendance and implementing remote learning in public and private schools, higher education institutions, and kindergartens.

The same measures will be applied to government rehabilitation centers, nurseries, private training centers and institutes licensed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Development.

Administrative, educational and technical staff in all institutions covered by the decisions are exempted from suspending attendance.

There has been a spike in coronavirus cases since December. Bahrain registered 459 new cases on Wednesday, pushing the total cases to 101,116 since the start of the pestilence, with 371 deaths.

According to Oxford University’s Our World in Data website, Bahrain has the third-highest rate of vaccinations per capita in the world so far. Bahrain offers its citizens either China’s Sinopharm vaccine or Pfizer/BioNTech free of charge.

The country also approved the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine on Monday for emergency use.

A total of 1,65,953 people inoculated in the kingdom so far.
