Manama: The deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to spread rapidly across the six gulf countries, infecting more than 13,213 people and killing nearly 88.
Nine deaths and over 1,279 new positive cases of Covid-19 were recorded across the gulf countries on Saturday, the highest one-day jump so far.
Saudi Arabia is the worst-hit country in the GCC, followed by the United Arab Emirates. With more than 4,033 COVID-19 patients and 52 deaths, the county has recorded over 59 % of the total casualties of the gulf. The UAE is the second worst hit country with a total of 3,736 cases including 20 deaths. On Saturday, Saudi Arabia recorded 5 deaths and the UAE four deaths.
The total confirmed coronavirus cases in the six gulf countries now stand at 13,213 with 2,348 recoveries and 88 deaths.
The total registered cases across the GCC stands as: Saudi Arabia- 4033, UAE-3736, Qatar-2728, Kuwait-1154, Bahrain-1016, and Oman-546.
Five People, including 3 expats, die in Saudi Arabia
Five more people, including three expats, died of coronavirus in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, pushing the country’s death toll to 52.
The total tally of novel coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia reached 4033, after 382 people confirmed of the virus in the past 24-hours. This is the highest one-day spike the country has witnessed so far.
According to the Ministry of Health spokesman, of the total number, 3,261 are active cases, 52 are dead, while 720 people have been discharged after recovery.
Two expats died in Jeddah and one in Mecca, according to the ministry of health.
Of the new registered cases, 131 were reported in Makkah alone, bringing the total infections in the region to 852. In Madinah, 95 people were diagnosed with the disease. There were 76 cases in Riyadh and 50 in Jeddah, Ministry of Health spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali said in a press conference.
The new cases were recorded in people in different age groups, he said. Everyone is susceptible to the disease. According to the official data, 70 to 80 per cent of covid-19 cases recently detected belong to expats.
Using plasma therapy in coronavirus treatment in the kingdom is currently under consideration, he added.
During a video conference with health officials in the kingdom on Saturday, the Health Minister Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah said that Covid-19 is spreading rapidly in Saudi Arabia and urged the Saudis and expatriates to sail to the safe coast.
Earlier this week, Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah had said that four different studies conducted by international experts specialised in epidemics showed that the number of coronavirus cases in the Kingdom over the next few weeks would reach between 10,000 and 200,000.
4 Peiople Die In UAE
Four more people died due to coronavirus in the UAE on Saturday, jumping the death toll to 20.
The UAE had its largest single-day rise yet, with 376 new cases. The number of cases reported in the country is now 3,736, while there have been 588 recoveries and 20 deaths so far. The country recorded its highest recovery today, with 170 people discharged from hospital. The Ministry of Health said 20,000 rapid test were carried out on Saturday.
All the latest cases were detected through intensified investigation and examination procedures and all of the new cases are in stable condition, the ministry said.
