Coronavirus Continues to Wreak Havoc In Gulf, 5 More Deaths; 339 New Cases

Manama: Infections and fatalities due to COVID-19 disease continued to rampage in the Gulf, where on Tuesday reported 339 new infection cases and five deaths in the past 24 hours, which prompted the nations to take more tough measures to combat virus.

Saudi Arabia has reported two deaths on Tuesday while the UAE, Qatar and Oman reported one each, bringing the death toll from Coronavirus in the Gulf to 23.

The Gulf has so far a total of 4056 coronavirus cases with Saudi Arabia being in the lead confirming 1536 cases as of Tuesday, while 690 people have made full recovery.

Saudi Arabia’s 10th fatality as infections rise to 1536

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health on Tuesday confirmed two coronavirus death and 110 new cases of the deadly global pandemic, taking its tally to 1536 across the country.

Two expatriates in Madinah were the latest victim of covid-19, raising the number of fatalities in the country to 10, said Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali, spokesman of the ministry, in a press briefing.

He also said 50 people have recovered Tuesday alone, taking the number of recoveries to 169.

UAE records 6th death

The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday recorded its sixth death due to coronavirus in the country. A 67-year-old Asian man, who had underlying chronic health conditions that include heart disease, diabetes and blood pressure, was latest victim of the disease.

The same day the UAE reported 53 new cases of the virus infection, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 664, including 61 recoveries. Among the newly infected patients are 31 Indian nationals.

Qatar reports 2nd fatality

Qatar Ministry of Public Health announced on Tuesday its second death from coronavirus and 88 new cases, taking total virus infection count to 781 in the country. Ministry also announced a total of 51 recoveries from the infection which include 11 new recoveries.  

The deceased was a 58 years old resident who was suffering from underlying and chronic diseases had been admitted to intensive care immediately after he was tested positive on March 17 and the necessary treatment and medical care was provided to him on entering the hospital, ministry said.

In a statement issued to the state run Qatar New Agency on Tuesday, the ministry said new infected cases have been admitted under complete isolation, where they receive the necessary medical care.

The ministry stated that it had conducted 2,291 tests to detect the coronavirus on Tuesday and 88 people were confirmed positive among them. The total number of Covid-19 tests done in Qatar now stands at 22,349.

First death in Oman

Oman has announced its first death due to novel coronavirus on Tuesday.

The deceased was a 72-year-old citizen, country's state television reports quoting Ministry of Health.

 

On Tuesday, the total confirmed infection have surged to 192, after 13 new cases were reported, which was a huge spike in coronavirus cases from Sunday when the sultanate reported 84 cases. Of the total, 34 cases have recovered, the ministry added.
