Manama: The coronavirus continues to spread across Gulf, with over 17,426 confirmed cases and at least 122 dead.
13 deaths and over 1,307 new positive cases of Covid-19 were recorded across the six gulf countries on Tuesday, the highest one-day spike so far.
Among the deaths reported yesterday, eight people were died in Saudi Arabia and three in the UAE, while Kuwait and Bahrain reported one each.
Saudi Arabia is the worst-hit country in the GCC, followed by the United Arab Emirates. Both countries recorded the highest single-day increase in its coronavirus infection since the outbreak of the deadly pathogen.
In Saudi Araba, there have been at least 5,369 cases and 73 deaths, according to a ministry of Health data.
Eight people died of covid-19 on Tuesday alone, according to the ministry. According to reports, the latest fatalities were expats - four in Madinah, three in Makkah and one in Jeddah. They were between 41-71 age group with pre-existing health conditions.
The number of recoveries stood at 889. A total of 114 new cases were reported in Riyadh, 111 in Makkah, 69 in Dammam, 50 in Madinah, and 46 in Jeddah, the ministry added.
More than 1,50,000 people were tested for coronavirus in Saudi Arabia till date.
The UAE, the second worst hit country in the GCC, registered three deaths and 412 new positive cases, on Tuesday.
The total confirmed infection in the country now stands at 3,736 including 20 deaths. The Emirate has the highest number of recovery in the GCC, 933 to date.
Kuwait recorded its third death and 55 new cases, on Tuesday. The total number of infections in the country rose to 1,355.
A 79-year-old citizen who suffered from chronic illnesses, was the latest victim of the virus.
Of the latest cases, 29 were Indians, taking the number of infected Indians in the country to 753. The total tally includes 26 in intensive care units, nine of them in critical condition, according to ministry. Also, 146 individuals completed quarantine in the last 24 hours.
One more people died of covid-19 in the kingdom of Bahrain, bringing the death toll to seven.
The country confirmed 122 new cases, all are expats, on Tuesday, pushing the infected tally to 1,528.
Of the confirmed cases, 648 were fully recovered. On Tuesday alone, 57 people were discharged. The active cases now stands at 873.
According to reports, out of the confirmed cases, more than 600 were expatriates.
Meanwhile, in a bid to curb the spread of the covid-19, the government has issued strict guidelines to private sector companies including, limiting labour camps to 10 per cent of staff, restricting visitors at camps and encouraging women to work from home.
The total registered cases across the GCC stands as: Saudi Arabia- 5369, UAE-4933, Qatar-3428, Bahrain-1528, Kuwait-1355, and Oman-813.
