COVID-19: SAUDI RECORDS FOUR DEATH IN 24 HOURS, THIRD DEATH IN UAE

Manama: The number of death from coronavirus in Saudi Arabia doubled to eight on Sunday as the country reported four new deaths according to the Ministry of Health.

 

All the four dead were foreigners; two died in Jeddah and two in Medina.

 

There were 96 more infections from coronavirus during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of infection to 1299 in the country, the health ministry said on Twitter.

 

The first death in Saudi Arabia due to COVID-19 was reported on last Tuesday. The next five days have witnessed a surge in fatality, which reached to 8 on Sunday. This was for the first time in Gulf countries where four people died of coronavirus within 24 hours.

 

UAE confirmed its third COVID-19 mortality on Sunday, while total number of infections surged in to 570 in the county after 102 new positive cases. Out of these 102 cases, thirty were Indian nationals taking the infected Indians to78.

 

The deceased was identified as an Arab lady aged 47 and she had prior chronic illnesses that complicated her ability to fight the disease, official Emirates News Agency, WAM reports quoting the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

 

Meanwhile, the number of coronavirus cases continue to raise in the Gulf region, as of Sunday night, 3424 cases had been confirmed in six Gulf countries. And the fatality rate also rose to 16 on Sunday.

 

Out of total GCC cases, 534 were cured and discharged from the hospitals. The highest recovery rate in the GCC was reported in the Kingdom of Bahrain where so far 272 people, around 50.93 percent, were cured from the pandemic leaving behind 224 active cases, including the 17 new cases.

 

Qatar on Saturday announced 44 new cases, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 634, making it the second worst- hit country in the Gulf, behind Saudi Arabia.

 

20 new coronavirus cases were registered in the state of Kuwait, bringing the total cases to 255 and the Sultanate of Oman confirmed 15 new cases, taking the total infections in the Sultanate to 167.

 

The first batch of 300 Saudi citizens, who were in quarantine after they arrived to the Kingdom two weeks back from countries hit by coronavirus, were sent back to home on Sunday.
