Berlin : A Covid Tsunami triggered by Omicron and Delta variants could push health systems across the globe to brink of collapse, says WHO. With highly transmissible Omicron and Delta circulating at the same time, the avalanche of infections between them would cause huge surge in hospital admissions and deaths, said WHO Director General Tedros Adahanom Ghebreyesus.
As per WHO’s weekly report, the number of Covid infections have increased by 11 percent in the past one-month time, the majority of which have been reported from U.S. Roughly 49.9 cases have been reported worldwide between 20 – 26 Dec.
U. S. recorded a 39 percent rise with 14.8 lakh fresh infections. Africa, where Omicron was first reported from, recorded a 7 percent rise in Covid cases with 2,75,000 new infections.
