La Paz, BOLIVIA : The United Nations(UN) has urged Bolivia’s interim president Jeanine Anez and the supporters of self-exiled Left leader Evo Morales, to begin talks on the ongoing crisis that has claimed 23 lives so far and is causing food shortages.
Violent protests emerged after the former president, Evo Morales, resigned over allegations of vote tampering. Supporters of the charismatic left-wing leader and former coca farmer, from largely coca-farming regions of the country, took to streets sometimes armed with homemade bazookas, grenades and handguns.
They demand the interim president Anez to step down and hold fresh elections.
Meanwhile the country is plunged into food crisis, with people waiting in long ques on the streets of La Paz for cooking fuel, eggs and chicken as the highway blockades by protesters isolated the city from lowland farms.
