After the deadly insurrection at the US Capitol earlier by supporters of the outgoing president Donald Trump on the Senate Vote Certification day, public have been kept out of today’s swearing-in-ceremony. And in view of that experience, Washington DC has been heavily fortified than before. The heavy police deployment all over has been additionally backed by over 25,000 troopers from the National Guard Force. The National Mall, that traditionally overflows with thousands in attendance from the public will this time around have only security personnel on its premises.
The oath-taking ceremony will be held at 12:00 pm noon(Indian time 10.:30 pm night) to the west of US Congress building, the Capitol. 78-year-old Joe Biden would be the oldest candidate to assume the presidential office. Chief Justice John Roberts will read out the oath for Biden while Kamala Harris will have her oath prompted by the sole Latino woman judge of the Supreme Court, Sonia Sottom.
After the swearing-in, the new president and vice president will walk to the White House with a brief military parade. Biden has been resident at White House for eight years prior in vice presidential capacity under Barrack Obama.
