Five deaths, 165 new infections in Saudi; the UAE records 210 new cases

Manama: Five people, including three expatriates, died in Saudi Arabia on Thursday due to coronavirus infection, pushing the total tally to 21.

165 new cases reported in the country on Thursday, which is the highest-ever single-day increase in its COVID-19 tally in the country.

This brought the total confirmed virus infections to 1,885, according to the Ministry of Health. Total recovery shoot up to 328 after 64 new recovery, the Ministry of Health spokesman said in a press briefing.

Two expatriates died in Madinah and one in Khamis Mushayat. Makkah reported the highest number of virus cases on Thursday, with 48 cases. While Madinah confirmed 46 cases on the same day.

Third death in Qatar

An 85-year-old COVID-19 patient died in Qatar, taking the number of coronavirus deaths in the county to three, Ministry of Public Health said on Thursday.

He was suffering from acute pneumonia and had been admitted to intensive care immediately after he was tested positive.

The ministry confirmed 114 new cases, taking total virus infection count to 949 in the country. Ministry also announced a total of 72 recoveries from the infection.

The ministry stated that it had conducted 1,435 tests to detect the coronavirus on Wednesday and 114 people were confirmed positive among them. The total number of Covid-19 tests done in Qatar now stands at 26,260.

The UAE sees a spike in infection

The UAE ministry of Health and prevention recorded 210 new cases of coronavirus on Thursday, taking the country’s total to 1,024. It is the highest number of infections reported in the country since the outbreak of the pestilence.

The ministry also announced 35 people fully recovered from the infection, taking the total recoveries to 96.

The new cases, who in a stable condition, were identified through contact tracing and failed to adhere to preventive measures, ministry said.
