Tel Aviv : UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak  visits Israel, a trip that follows those of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on 17 Oct and Biden on 18 - in hasty bid to prevent the war from escalating and engulfing the Middle East. Rishi Sunak landed in Tel Aviv early this morning and will stay for two days to hold meetings with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

Sunak will  press for humanitarian aid to be delivered to Gaza as soon as possible. “Every civilian death is a tragedy,” Sunak had said ahead of his trip.

Meanwhile the Foreign Secretary James Cleverly will meet leaders in Egypt, Turkey and  Qatar in coming days in a bid for peaceful resolution in Israel and Gaza. The foreign secretary will push for agreement for humanitarian aid for Gaza and negotiate release of British hostages held by Hamas.

The British ministers’ trips follow that of US President Joe Biden, one that was overshadowed by a deadly blast hospital in Gaza city on Tuesday.  While speculation continues over who bombarded the facility, emerging visuals at this juncture, points in the direction of another militant group in Palestine.

Sunak, Biden and Scholz’s visits all race  to find a diplomatic  fix to escalating war especially before the Israel’s widely anticipated ground offensive in Gaza.
