New York : In a second such attack in two weeks, the statue of Mahatma Gandhi outside a temple in Queens, New York was completed destroyed. According to reports, six miscreants smashed the statue to pieces around 1.30 am local time on Tuesday and painted it obscenities
The 111th Street’s road where the incident took place was also sprayed with obscene words.
Two weeks earlier, on 3 Aug, the same statue that stood outside the shri Tulsi Mandir for 7 years, was knocked over.
According to witnesses, the suspects in the current incident appeared to be men between ages 25 - 30. They climbed over and broke the statue using a sledgehammer, onlookers said.
On 14 July this year, a Mahatma Gandhi statue was vandalised in Canada and another life-sized Gandhi statue was destroyed in Manhattan in February this year.
