GCC’s coronavirus infection rises to 10,582, with 70 deaths

Manama: The six nation GCC confirmed new cases and deaths from the novel coronavirus on Thursday.

Saudi Arabia reported three deaths while UAE reported two and Oman one, bringing the death toll from Coronavirus in the Gulf to 70.

The Gulf has so far a total of 10,582 coronavirus cases with Saudi Arabia being in the lead confirming 3,287 cases as of Thursday, while 666 people have made full recovery.

Total confirmed cases in other GCC countries: Qatar-2,210, Kuwait-855, and Bahrain-821.

 

Saudi Arabia’s infections rose to 3,287, and 44 deaths

The death toll in Saudi Arabia rose to 44 after three more fatalities over the past 24 hours, according to the country’s Health Ministry.

Ministry also confirmed on Thursday, 355 new cases of the deadly global pandemic, taking its tally to 3,287 across the country. This was biggest single-day spike of positive coronavirus cases since the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

Makkah, Hufuf and Jubail reported the latest three deaths, said Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali, spokesman of the ministry, in a press briefing.

He also said 35 people have recovered Thursday alone, taking the number of recoveries to 666. A total of 2,621 people are currently undergoing treatment including 45 critical patients.

The highest number of cases were reported in Madinah on Thursday- 89 people diagnosed with the disease. Remaining cases were reported as: Riyadh-83, Makkah-78, Jeddah-45, Tabuk-26, Qatif-10, Yambu- four, Taif- four, Darail- four, Hufuf, Unais, Al-Kharj- two each, Khamis Mushait, Beesha, Al-Baha and Riyadh al-Qabra, Ahad Rafida and Najran-1 each.

Capital city, Riyadh, is the centre stage of total corona infections in the country- 961 people have been contracted the disease. Three people also died in the governorate. 267 were recovered from the virus. In Mecca, 637 people were infected, of this 114 were recovered. Nine people died here.

Medina tops the death toll with 19 fatalities. 397 are on treatment. In Jeddah, 477 people were diagnosed with the disease. Six people died so far.

Dr. Al-Ali said more than 35, 000 people benefited from quarantine measures across the country.

He highlighted the need for citizens and expat residents to stay at home and stay away from social gatherings to avoid contacting infected patients.

 

The UAE sees largest single-day spike of 331 cases, two deaths

Two people died due to Covid-19 in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, pushing the country’s fatality to 14.

The same day the UAE reported 331 new cases of virus infection- the largest single-day spike announced by the Ministry of Health and Prevention. The total number of COVID-19 cases now stand at 2990, including 268 recoveries.

The new cases, all of whom are in a stable condition and receiving treatment, said the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

 

Expat dies in Oman

A 41-year-old expat died in Oman due to covid-19, the ministry of health confirmed on Thursday.

This is the third death recorded in Oman.

The country confirmed 38 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the total cases to 457.

The Ministry of Health confirmed that so far 109 have recovered from the disease and three persons have succumbed to the illness.

The number of cases are increasing but Oman has not reached the climax yet, according to the minister of health. The precautions taken by the Sultanate, and the pace by which cases are growing can be dealt with," the minister said.

The highest number of coronavirus cases were reported in Muscat Governorate. And three death also reported in Muscat.

In order to curb the spread of the deadly pathogen, the governorate of Muscat will be locked for 12 days from April 10 until April 22.
