Manama: The number of coronavirus cases in the Gulf continue to soar as the six nation block recorded the highest single-day spike in new cases and deaths.
The tally of the positive cases rose to 61,224 after over 3,369 new cases were confirmed on Friday. And the death toll from Covid-19 jumped to 341 after 19 new death registered on the same day. GCC has listed 11,183 recovery to date.
Two more Keralites died in the UAE after contracting coronavirus. They were identified as Palapetty Mustafa (62), a resident of Tirur and Elanthur Prakash Krishnan (55). With this, Keralites death toll in the gulf due to covid-19 rose to 35, according to the country’s health authorities. Of these, 27 were in the UAE.
Another seven people died from COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia to push the total death toll to 167. And the number of cases rose for another one-day record of 1,344 to bring the total to 24,097.
The country recorded its highest recovery – 392- on Friday, taking the numbers of recovery to 3555.
Six more people died of coronavirus in the UAE, pushing the country’s death toll to 117.
The country recorded 557 fresh cases on the same day. With this the total infection in the country rose to 13,038, according to the latest numbers released by the ministry of health and prevention on Friday afternoon. 2,543 have recovered from the virus, ministry said.
Four more people, including an Indian, died in Kuwait on Friday, bringing the death tally to 30. Kuwait’s total Covid-19 cases rose to 4,377 after 353 people tested positive. Of the latest cases, 103 are Indians, taking the number of infected Indians in the country to 1,997.
Two more deaths from the novel virus have been also confirmed on Friday, taking the death toll to 12.
687 new infection cases also registered on the same day, bringing the total cases to 14,096. Of the new cases, majority were expats, ministry of public health said.
Bahrain registered 129 new cases, and Oman reported 99 new cases, on Friday.
