Manama: Four more Keralites lost their lives to coronavirus in the Gulf on Saturday, bringing the total number of deaths of Keralites in the gulf to 39. Of these, 30 were in the UAE alone.
Eight more people, including three Keralites, were died in the UAE after contracting coronavirus on Saturday. The Keralites were identified as Malappuram Moorkkanadu native Musthafa (49) in Abu Dhabi, Kannur Kelakam native Thankachan Varghese (57) in Sharjah and Malappuram Edappal native Thahir in Dubai.
The total number of coronavirus related-fatalities rose to 119. The country recorded 561 new cases, pushing the total confirmed cases to 13,599. The total number of recoveries in the UAE reached 2,664 after 121 new recoveries on Saturday.
The country has ramped up testing, and at over 12 lakh tests, the UAE has the third highest testing density in the world. The authorities, on Friday, said that an innovative treatment against Covid-19 infections using stem cells were developed and has been used to treat 73 patients.
Meanwhile, seven expats, including a Keralite, died of Covid-19 in Saudi Arabia on Saturday, bringing the total number of deaths to 176. The Keralite identified as Areekhath Hamsa Aboobacker (59), who hails from Malappuram Makkaraparamba. He died in Madina on Saturday. With this, the total number of Keralites lost their lives to covid-19 in Saudi Arabia rose to seven.
A total of 1,362 new coronavirus cases confirmed in the country on the same day. The confirmed cases in Saudi Arabia now stands as 25,459, the Ministry of Health said. The country recorded 210 new recoveries on Saturday, taking the total number recoveries to 3,765.
Elsewhere in Gulf, Kuwait recorded three deaths while Oman one.
A Keralite, identified as Mahraoof Maliyekkal (44) hailing from Mankavu in Kozhikode died in Kuwait due to coronavirus on Saturday. The total fatalities from Covid-19 in the country rose to 11.
So far, five Indians in Kuwait were succumbed to the virus.
More than 242 people, including 93 Indians, were confirmed to the virus. With this, the total number of registered cases in the country reached 4,619. Of this, 2,090 were Indians.
A 60-year-old expat died in Oman after contracting the virus, bringing the death toll in the country to 12. A total of 2,483 cases were recorded in the country to date. Of these, 750 were recovered.
Qatar recorded 776 new cases, taking the total cases to 14,872. The country recorded 1534 recoveries so far.
Bahrain registered 11 new cases on Saturday. The total numbers of confirmed cases now stand as 3,284. The country recorded 1,568 recoveries so far, leaving behind 1,708 active cases.
The total number of coronavirus cases in the Gulf now stand as 64,212 and total death toll to 360.
